The Dangote Group plans to expand its investments in Tanzania, to strengthen the country's power generation, industrial and logistic infrastructures. The company would develop a special economic and trade zone in Mtwara, including the construction of a 2 GW coal-fired power plant, a urea fertiliser project, a new port, and transport infrastructure linking Mtwara and Mbamba Bay on Lake Malawi in southern Tanzania (Naira Metrics, 30/06/2026).
Dangote will now start formal negotiations with the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Tanzania. The company already operates a USD500m cement plant in Mtwara with a production capacity of 3 Mt/year, and plans to invite the government of Tanzania to participate in its project to replicate its 650 kb/d refinery of Lagos (Nigeria) in Kenya.
