Czechia’s ČEZ triples its profit in 2022 while its power generation dips 2%

The Czech power utility ČEZ Group has released its 2022 results, in which the company posts a record net income of CZK80.7bn (€3.4bn), a more than eightfold increase compared to 2021. ČEZ’s EBITDA doubled to reach CZK131.6bn (€5.6bn) in 2022, while the total operating revenues reached CZK288.5bn (€12.2bn), a 27% increase year-on-year.

ČEZ generated 54.3 TWh of power in 2022, a 2% decrease compared to 2021, including 31 TWh of electricity from nuclear (+1%), 17.5 TWh from coal, including 15.7 TWh in Czechia (-3%) and 1.8 TWh in Poland (+1%), 2.5 TWh from natural gas (-22%) and 3.3 TWh from renewables (-13%). In 2022, generation from hydropower fell by 15% and generation from biomass fell by 24%, while generation from wind (in Germany) increased by 12%. The group’s installed capacity stood at 11.8 GW in 2022, stable compared to 2021. 

ČEZ distributed 35.1 TWh (-5%) and sold 22.5 TWh (+10%) of electricity to end-use customers in 2022. The company distributed 0.6 TWh (-12%) and sold 8.1 TWh (+19%) of gas to end-use customers. Sales of heat stood at 23,500 TJ or 6.5 TWh (-11%).
