Czech power utility ČEZ creates new nuclear energy division

Czech power utility ČEZ has decided to create a nuclear energy division that will group all its nuclear operations as of 1 June 2017; it will be split from its existing Generation division, that will become the Conventional Energy division. This reorganisation will help the group comply with the requirements of the amended Atomic Energy Act.

Under the new energy strategy (2015), ČEZ should create a subsidiary to carry out nuclear projects and explore financing options, as the country has rejected any state guarantee on electricity prices.

The group, which already operates four VVER-440 reactors at the Dukovany nuclear power plant (2,040 MW) and two VVER-1000 reactors at the Temelín plant (2,160 MW), plans to build a new 1,200-1,700 MW unit at Dukovany; construction would start around 2025 and the unit would be commissioned around 2035. Three additional units could be built at the Dukovany and Temelin sites.
