Cyprus, Greece and Israel agree to boost cooperation on an energy corridor

The governments of Cyprus, Greece and Israel have agreed intensify cooperation to develop an energy corridor intended to bring gas from the Eastern Mediterranean to Europe, as well as to interconnect power grids. The envisaged projects notably include the development of a pipeline and an electricity interconnector.

Earlier in 2023, Cyprus suggested developing a gas pipeline linking Israel's east Mediterranean gas fields to a liquefaction facility on Cyprus, which could then be exported to Europe.

In addition, Israel has expressed interest in being part of a planned subsea electricity link to Europe. The EuroAsia Interconnector subsea cable project, which received the support of the European Union, is expected to be able to carry up to 2 GW of electricity and link grids from Israel and Cyprus to Greece.
