Cypress Creek acquires 2.5 GW solar + 3 GWh BESS project in US

Cypress Creek Renewables has acquired the Steel River solar + BESS project located in Mississippi County, Arkansas (United States) from Swift Current Energy (Cypress Creek press release, 11/03/2026). The project is currently under development, and it consists of 2.45 GW of solar capacity paired with a 720 MW/2,900 MWh BESS. The Steel River project represents an investment of over USD4.5bn and it is expected to increase grid reliability reducing the possibility of brownouts and blackouts in the area, as well as it should help keep prices stable by meeting peak electricity demand.

The project is planned for a development in three phases, each consisting of about 815 MW of solar capacity paired with 240 MW/960 MWh of BESS capacity, with all three phases being expected to be operational by 2029.

Cypress Creek is an American solar and energy storage developer, owner, and operator with an operating and under-construction portfolio of nearly 7 GW, with a 15 GW development pipeline with projects planned for construction in the coming years.
