CWP Global makes progress on three Serbian renewables projects (680 MW)

CWP Global has secured approvals from local authorities for three renewable project totalling 680 MW in Serbia. The Vetrogon wind project, with a capacity of 450 MW, will be located in Srbobran and Bečej. The €600m plant, which will generate 1.1 TWh/year, should enter construction in 2025. Commissioning is expected to take place in 2028. The Lederata Energy project in Požarevac and Veliko Gradište, which should generate 380 GWh/year, will include a 100 MW wind plant, a 50 MW wind park and an energy storage system of 20 MWh. Construction is scheduled to start in early 2025, and the €200m plant should be fully operational at the beginning of 2027. In addition, CWP Global will develop a 80 MW solar project in Kula and Ruski Krstur for €80m. Construction should start in early 2024 and commissioning is scheduled by end-2024.  Annual generation is estimated at 136 GWh.

According to the “Energy Security of Serbia” programme released in February 2022, Serbia targets a minimum share of 49.6% of renewables in final energy consumption by 2040 and considers phasing out thermal power plants to reach a decarbonised economy in 2050. Wind accounts for 5% of Serbia's installed capacity, with 400 MW (end of 2021). Solar represents less than 1% of the country's capacity mix, with 30 MW.
