The Australian renewable company CWP Global, through its subsidiary Dobrotich Wind, will invest BGN1.2bn (€613.5m) to build a 592 MW onshore wind park in the Varna region, located in northeastern Bulgaria.
The park will be equipped with 74 turbines with a planned capacity of 8 MW each. 50 of the turbines will be installed in the municipality of Valchi Dol, and the remaining 24 will be installed in the municipality of Vetrino. Both municipalities are located near the city of Dobrotich. The wind farm will generate enough electricity to power 440,000 households. The project is expected to come online in 2027.
In 2020, wind represented around 5% of Bulgaria’s total installed capacity with 701 MW and 4% of its power generation with 1.5 GWh. Prior to CWP Global’s announcement, the country had 300 MW of wind capacity under development and 42 MW under construction.
