CWP and PowerChina partner to develop a 300 MW wind project in Serbia

The renewable energy developer CWP Europe has signed an investment agreement with PowerChina Resources to develop the 300 MW Vetrozelena onshore wind project in the Vojvodina region of northern Serbia. The power plant will be comprised of 48 wind turbines and is due for commissioning in 2025. The power plant will generate enough electricity to power more than 185,000 Serbian households and is expected to reduce emissions by 820 ktCO2/year. The project’s cost is estimated at around €270m.

The Vetrozelena wind project is the second project CWP has developed in Serbia, following the 158 MW Čibuk wind farm, also located in the Vojvodina region. CWP has a more than 6 GW pipeline of wind, solar and battery projects in south-eastern Europe.

At the end of 2021, wind represented about 5% of Serbia’s installed capacity with 398 MW, and about 3% of its power generation with around 1 TWh. The country currently has around 5 GW of wind capacity under development.
