CQP submits 450 MW/3.6 GWh solar+BESS project in Queensland (Australia)

Central Queensland Power (CQP), a joint venture between Energy Estate and RES Australia, has submitted its Wooderson Solar Development project, a 450 MW solar and 450 MW/3.6 GWh BESS hybrid project, to the federal EPBC process. Construction should start in the first quarter of 2028, subject to the EPBC's approval, and operations could start in the first quarter of 2031.

The AUD2bn (US$1.4bn) facility will be located in the industrial hub of Gladstone, Queensland (Australia), and could be joined by a wind facility of up to 816 MW. The city is looking for alternative energy sources to replace the Gladstone coal-fired power plant, set to be phased out by 2028.

The project will contribute to Queensland’s current renewable energy targets set out in the Queensland Energy Roadmap 2025 and achieving net zero by 2050.
