The US company Competitive Power Ventures (CPV) has completed the 1.25 GW CPV Three Rivers CCGT power plant, located in Grundy County, in the US state of Illinois. The gas-fired power plant, co-owned by CPV and Osaka Gas USA, features two GE 7HA.02 gas turbines, heat recovery steam generators and steam turbines. The project required a total investment of US$1.3bn and is expected to generate enough electricity to supply about 1 million American households.
CPV Three Rivers, whose construction started in 2020, is the 5th CCGT power plant to utilize GE technology that CPV has brought online since 2016. Combined, these CPV facilities total nearly 4.6 GW and can power nearly 5 million households and businesses.
At the national level, in 2022, gas-fired power generation represented 42% of the US’ installed capacity with nearly 497 GW and 38% of the country’s power generation with 1,724 TWh.
