The CP2 LNG project in Louisiana (US) receives environmental approval

The proposed Calcasieu Pass 2 (CP2) LNG project, located in the US State of Louisiana and developed by Venture Global LNG, has received a positive environmental approval from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The decision clears the way for a final vote by the FERC on expanding the company's natural gas liquefaction facility.

The construction of the CP2 LNG project, for which Venture Global has already taken a Final Investment Decision (FID), is set to begin during the course of 2023. The terminal, which should enter full operation in 2026, is expected to have a capacity of 20 Mt/year of LNG and a peak capacity of up to 28 Mt/year under optimal conditions.

As of July 2023, 9.25 Mt/year of the nameplate capacity for the CP2 project has been sold under long term (20-year) sales and purchase agreements (SPAs), including 1 Mt/year to be sold to Inpex (Japan), 1 Mt/year to China Gas Hongda Energy Trading (China), 1 Mt/year to JERA (Japan), 2 Mt/year to China Gas Holdings and 2.25 Mt/year to  Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE) (Germany).
