Cox plans to develop over 4.5 GW of new renewable capacity (mostly in Mexico)

Cox, a Spanish energy company, has announced during the Capital Markets Day its plans to invest €5.5bn (US$6.4bn) to develop over 4.1 GW of renewable capacity and 10 GWh of BESS between 2026 and 2028 (Cox press release 16/10/2025). The company expects to develop on its core markets (Mexico, Central America, Brazil, Chile, Spain, Middle East & Africa, as well as the USA) a pipeline constituted by 3.7 GW solar, 385 MW wind, 500 MW of gas, and 10 GWh BESS

  • Most of the investment (about €2.6bn) will be made in Mexico (1.7 GW solar, 250 MW wind, 500 MW gas and 6.3 GWh BESS capacity).
  • The strategic plan also announced a €350m investment in energy transmission infrastructure.

In July 2025, Cox acquired 100% of Iberdrola Mexico, including 2.6 GW distributed across 15 generating assets (1.4 GW of CCGT and cogeneration and 1.2 GW of solar PV and wind), and a pipeline of over 12 GW (of which 11.8 GW are renewables).
