Cove Point LNG terminal gets DOE approval for non-FTA exports (US)

Dominion has received approval from the US Department of Energy (DOE) for natural gas exports to non-Free Trade Agreement (FTA) countries from its Dominion Cove Point LNG facility on the Chesapeake Bay in Lusby, Maryland (US).

The DOE previously approved Dominion's application to export to countries with Free Trade Agreements. Dominion's proposed facilities are expected to cost US$3.4bn to US$3.8bn. The company filed in March 2013 with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for approval of the proposed facilities. Pending receipt of regulatory approval and permits, construction is scheduled to begin in 2014, with an in-service date of 2017. The Cove Point liquefaction project will be installed on the site of the existing regasification terminal and will have a capacity of 5.25 Mt/year. The capacity of the facility is fully subscribed, with signed 20-year terminal service agreements. Pacific Summit Energy (affiliate of Sumitomo) and GAIL (India), each have contracted for half of the marketed capacity.
