Côte d’Ivoire has awarded Infinity Power with two solar PV projects with a combined capacity of 108 MWp through the World Bank’s Scaling Solar competitive tender initiative. The auction, overseen by the Directorate General for Energy and supported by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), selected Infinity Power’s bid as the most competitive for the development of the 59 MWp Touba and 50 MWp Laboa solar power plants. The projects will include 17 km of new transmission infrastructure and are expected to generate enough power to supply electricity to a population of over 400,000 and avoid more than 60 ktCO2/year once they become operational. Infinity Power will operate the infrastructure over a 25-year period before returning them to the State.
Additionally, the Ivorian company Tongon Solaire, a subsidiary of the conglomerate EKDS Nouvelle, has also announced the development of a 52 MWp solar PV power plant in the department of Mbengué (North Côte d’Ivoire). The CFA33bn (US$60m) project will be implemented under a BOOT (Build-Own-Operate-Transfer) contract for a 25-year period. Industrial commissioning is scheduled for November 2027.
