Côte d’Ivoire has approved three public-private partnership (PPP) agreements covering the development and operation of new thermal power generation projects totalling around 735 MW (Ivoirian government press release, 05/08/2026). The projects were selected following the submission of proposals by private operators to develop new power generation assets and supporting infrastructure in response to rising electricity demand.
The approved agreements include the development of a 470 MW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant in Taboth by Genser Energy Taboth, the leasing and operation of a 225 MW floating power generation unit in Abidjan under the Power 32 project, and the deployment of a 40 MW modular thermal power plant in Attakro and Abrobakro under the PIPS project.
Côte d’Ivoire has a capacity of 2.9 GW (end of 2024), split between gas (56%, 1,620 MW), hydro (30%, 880 MW), and oil (12%, 350 MW), according to Enerdata’s Global Energy & CO2 data.
