Brazilian energy group Raízen, a joint venture between Cosan and Shell, will participate in the bidding round organized by the state-owned national oil and gas company Petrobras for the privatisation of four refineries. Raízen manages Brazil’s third petroleum product distribution network with 13,000 services stations (13% of the total), after Iparanga (14%) and Petrobras subsidiary BR (18%).
In November 2019, Petrobras started the final phase of the privatisation process of four refineries, as the company began to receive binding bids. As part of an antitrust deal with the Brazilian Ministry of Justice, the public enterprise has been forced to sell four of its 13 refineries, accounting for a half of Brazil 2.1 mb/d refining capacity. It includes the 130,000 bbl/d RNEST refinery (Pernambuco), the 333,000 bbl/d RLAM refinery (Bahia), the 208,000 bbl/d REPAR refinery (Paraná) and the 208,000 bbl /d REFAP refinery (Rio Grande do Sul).
