Corio Generation, a portfolio company of Macquarie Green Investment Group launched in 2022, has signed an agreement with Vietnamese infrastructure group Fecon to jointly develop a 500 MW offshore wind project in Ba Ria, Vietnam.
The Vung Tau project, which will be located 23 km to 35 km off the southeastern coast of the country, could become one of the first large-scale offshore wind projects in Vietnam. Once constructed, the fixed-bottom project could produce around 1.2 TWh/year of electricity.
Earlier in June 2022, German company BayWa announced plans to invest in 3 onshore wind projects totalling 240 MW in northern Vietnam. Vietnam’s wind capacity was multiplied by 8 between 2020 and 2021, increasing from 518 MW to over 4.1 GW (1 GW offshore).
