Corio Generation, a portfolio company of Macquarie Green Investment Group launched in 2022, will partner with British company Morwind to compete for floating offshore wind rights in the UK’s Celtic Sea.
Corio Generation already possesses a portfolio of over 20 GW of offshore wind projects, notably two projects totalling 3.5 GW in the UK: The 2 GW West of Orkney project in Scotland and the 1.5 GW Outer Dowsing project in England.
In November 2021, the UK’s Crown Estate published initial proposals for floating wind seabed leasing, with projects in English and Welsh waters expected to be delivered during the early 2030s. Seabed rights could be awarded as early as 2023.
In April 2022, the UK launched the British Energy Security Strategy, which increased the national offshore wind target from 40 GW to 50 GW by 2030, including 5 GW for floating projects. In 2021, offshore wind represented about 13% of the UK’s total installed capacity with 13 GW.
