ContourGlobal has acquired a portfolio of 37 MWp of operational solar PV capacity and 500 MW/2,000 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Greece (ContourGlobal press release, 26/01/2026). According to the company, the PV "portfolio comprises 26 operating PV plants across the country, commissioned between 2011 and 2022 and previously owned by Quest Energy"; it generates around 51 GWh/year and is fully contracted under FiT and FiP schemes. Meanwhile, the six BESS projects, acquired from FRV (Fotowatio Renewable Ventures, a Spanish developer) and Zephiros (a Greek developer), are in mature state of development, with the first 100 MW/400 MWh project in Farkadona (Thessaly) expected to start construction in the coming months, targeting commercial operation by early 2027.
ContourGlobal, the operator of the Maritsa East 3 (ME3 TPP) coal-fired power plant in Bulgaria, recently inaugurated a 202 MW/500 MWh stand-alone battery energy storage system (BESS) within the power plant complex in the Stara Zagora region. These acquisitions will strengthen the company's expansion in South-East Europe.
