Construction of the 13 Mt/year Offshore Area 1 LNG begins (Mozambique)

According to the President of Mozambique, construction works at Mozambique's Offshore Area 1 LNG (a.k.a. Mozambique LNG) have begun. The foundation stone of the project is ready to be laid and commissioning will take place in 2022-2023. Anadarko reached the Final Investment Decision (FID) on the US$25bn project in June 2019. The project will be funded by bank funds (US$14bn) and by Anadarko's shareholders (US$11bn). This will be first liquefaction project in Mozambique, tapping gas reserves of the Golfinho/Atum fields located within Offshore Area 1, estimated to hold more than 2,100 bcm or 12 Gboe. The LNG project will consist of two liquefaction trains with a combined production capacity of 12.88 Mt/year, for which 11.1 Mt/year of LNG contracts have already been secured. Offshore Area 1 LNG is being developed by Anadarko (26.5%) in partnership with Mitsui E&P Mozambique (20%), Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH, 15%), ONGC-OIL (10%), Beas Rovuma Energy (10%), Bharat PetroResources (10%) and PTTEP (8.5%).
