ConocoPhillips starts oil production at the Eldfisk North project (Norway)

ConocoPhillips Skandinavia, a subsidiary of the US oil and gas company ConocoPhillips, has started oil production at the Eldfisk North project, located in the North Sea off Norway. The resource potential of this project is estimated to be between 50 and 90 mboe. Production began ahead of schedule, as it was originally planned to start at the end of the second quarter of 2024.

ConocoPhillips had received approval from the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy to start the project in late February 2024. The company had submitted a plan for development and operation (PDO) of the Eldfisk North project to Norway in 2022, as the group is the operator of the Greater Ekofisk Area with 35.11% (in partnership with TotalEnergies EP Norge with 39.9%, Vår Energi with 12.39%, Sval Energi with 7.6%, and Petoro with 5%).

Located about 16 km south of Ekofisk and discovered in 1970, Eldfisk is thought to be the second largest of three producing fields in the Greater Ekofisk Area and one of the largest on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
