ConocoPhillips signs 20-year deals with Mexico Pacific for 2.2 Mt/year of LNG

The US oil and gas company ConocoPhillips has signed 20-year sales and purchase agreements (SPAs) with Mexico Pacific for the supply of 2.2 Mt/year of LNG from trains 1, 2 and 3 of Mexico Pacific’s Saguaro Energia LNG facility, located in Puerto Libertad, Sonora, north-western Mexico. When fully operational, the first phase of the facility will comprise three trains with a combined capacity of 15 Mt/year. The liquefaction project is expected to start operations in 2026.

In July 2023, Mexico Pacific also signed a 20-year agreement to supply 1 Mt/year of LNG to China’s Zhejiang Energy from Saguaro Energia, starting in 2027. In February 2023, ExxonMobil signed two long-term SPAs with Mexico Pacific for the supply of 2 Mt/year of LNG from the facility. In July 2022, Shell signed a 20-year SPA for the supply of 2.6 Mt/year of LNG from Saguaro Energia.

Mexico has currently no LNG liquefaction capacity, but several export projects are currently under development.
