Companies prepare over 700 MW green energy + BESS project pipeline in Chile
KKR-owned ContourGlobal has commissioned its 221 MW Quillagua solar PV plant with a 200 MW/1.2 GWh BESS in Chilean Tarapacá region. The Quillagua project can deliver 200 MW for over 6 hours and is expected to start commercial operations in the coming weeks to fulfil its long-term PPA. Countour Global is also developing a similar facility, the 231 MW Victor Jara solar PV project, coupled with a 1.3 GWh BESS, which is scheduled to be commissioned ahead of time in the second half of 2025. Once fully operational, the projects are expected to generate about 1.3 GWh/year. Both projects were acquired from Grenergy at the end of 2024 by ContourGlobal.
Additionally, RWE has submitted to the Chilean Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA) a 310 MW wind project. The Las Fresias wind power plant would be located in Chile’s province of Diguillín (Ñuble Region) and consist of 43 wind turbines with a unit power of 7.2 MW. The US$500m project is expected to start construction works in the first half of 2027 to become operational by 2029.
