The US Department of Energy (DoE) has granted final authorization for Commonwealth LNG to export up to 1.21 bcf/d (approximately 12.5 bcm/year or over 9 Mt/year) of LNG to countries without free trade agreements (FTAs). The approval applies to the company’s proposed export facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana (United States). It follows a conditional authorization issued in February 2025 and is consistent with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s approval for the project’s siting, construction, and operation granted in June 2025.
Commonwealth LNG, owned by Kimmeridge, has signed long-term LNG offtake agreements with Malaysia’s Petronas, Glencore, and Japan’s JERA. The company has also awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to France’s Technip Energies to support the project’s development.
The United States currently operates eight large-scale LNG export terminals, with several additional projects under construction or undergoing expansion.
