Colombia's new NDC targets maximum GHG emissions of 155-161 MtCO2eq by 2035

Colombia has presented its third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), which sets out its quantitative mitigation targets for 2030 and 2035, as well as its long-term strategic vision for carbon neutrality and resilience by 2050. Specifically, the country presents its new target of reducing its emissions to a maximum of between 155 and 161 MtCO2eq in 2035 (down from a previous target of 169.44 MtCO2eq by 2030 according to NDC 2.0). In 2023, Colombia's total emissions stood at 213 MtCO2eq excluding LULUCF and at 296 MtCO2eq including LULUCF.

Additionally, Colombia expects to reduce its black carbon emissions by between 6.1 kt and 8.8 kt compared to 2014 emissions by 2035. Colombia also expects to reduce its emissions from deforestation by decreasing the deforestation rate between 37,500 and 49,999 ha/year nationally by 2035, a target previously set at 50,000 ha/year by 2030.
