The Colombian Ministry of Environment and the National Environmental Licensing Authority (ANLA) has approved the environmental license of the second phase of the Colectora power transmission project, corresponding to the Colectora – Cuestecitas section, in the department of La Guajira (north-eastern Colombia).
The Colectora 500 kV is a transmission line being developed by Grupo Energía De Bogotá, and it consists of 516 tower sites, 228 km in two lines parallel to a single circuit, and an installation of 3,000 km of conductor cable. The project aims to help with the insertion of new sources of non-conventional renewable generation (wind and solar) to the Colombian electricity system located in the municipalities of Uribia, Manaure Albania and Maicao within the La Guajira department. Once operational, the Colectora 500 kV project would represent 6% of the installed capacity and 9.6% of the country's maximum demand.
Colombia’s transmission system is interconnected with Ecuador and Venezuela. The country was a net importer in 2023 (1 TWh of exports and 1.2 TWh of imports).
