Coastal Bend LNG has submitted a request to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to begin the pre-filing review process for a 19.2 Mt/year LNG export facility on the coast of Texas (US) (Coastal Bend LNG press release, 04/08/2026).
The proposed facility will comprise four liquefaction trains of 4.8 Mt/year each, for a total nameplate capacity of 19.2 Mt/year, together with associated storage and vessel loading infrastructure. The project is also designed with integrated carbon capture facilities, enabling the transport and geological sequestration of carbon dioxide.
According to the company, a formal application under Section 3 of the Natural Gas Act is expected to be submitted to FERC in early 2027. Coastal Bend LNG said the project benefits from proximity to Texas natural gas supplies, nearby carbon sequestration geology, and access to both European and Asian LNG markets.
LNG export capacities in the US are expected to increase by more than 80% by 2030, with volumes of exports expected to double by 2050 (Enerdata’s Global Energy Research).
