EnBW, Germany’s second-largest power utility, has released its 2022 results, posting a net profit of €1,738m, compared to €363m in 2021. The company’s power generation declined by 1% to 42 TWh, with 40% of coal, 22% of nuclear, 15% of hydro and 12% of wind. EnBW has an installed capacity of 13.1 GW (+3% compared to 2021), with 4.4 of coal, 3 GW of hydro, 2 GW of wind and 1.1 GW of nuclear.
In 2022, the group increased its investment by 12% to €3.2bn, due to success in the seabed auction for the construction of offshore wind projects off the Scottish coast (United Kingdom) and to the expansion of electricity transmission grids. Some 75% of total investment was for growth projects such as the expansion of renewables and grids as well as the rollout of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
