CNPC completes the north section the China-Russia gas pipeline

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has finished building the north section of the China-Russia East-Route Natural Gas Pipeline, linking Heihe to Changling. Connected to the 3,000 km-long Power of Siberia pipeline, it will allow China to import 38 bcm/year of gas from Russia over a 30-year period, as agreed with Gazprom in 2014.

During the first stage, only 5 bcm/year will be imported. The Heihe-Changling gas pipeline, which is connected to China’s gas transmission network, will supply gas from Russia to northeast China and the highly populated regions of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei. Deliveries are expected to start in December 2019.

The China Russia East-Route Natural Gas Pipeline will connect Heihe in northern China to Shanghai in the south of the Country. Planned to be built in three sections, the pipeline is expected to be commissioned in 2023.

In October 2019, Gazprom has completed filling gas into its Power of Siberia gas pipeline, sending gas to the gas metering station near Blagoveshchensk, at the Russian border with China.
