CNPC commissions largest gas storage facility of China (10.7 bcm)

CNPC started the gas injection system of Hutubi gas storage in Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region in June 2013 and the underground gas storage facility was successfully put into operation at the first trial.

The Hutubi gas storage is an underground one built on the basis of the original Hutubi gas field since July 2011. With a total storage capacity of 10.7 bcm, it is the largest of its kind in China, and the first large-scale auxiliary system to the West-East Gas Pipeline Network. Up to now, its gas injection volume stands at 11.23 mcm/d, meeting the design requirements.

The first to become operational amongst CNPC's six gas storages currently under construction, the Hutubi gas storage will play an important role in seasonal peak shaving and emergency storage. This will effectively relieve winter gas shortage in North Xinjiang, secure gas supply to the West-East Gas Pipeline Network, and promote local economic development.
