CNOOC's Ningbo LNG terminal expansion breaks ground (China)

China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) has started construction works on the second phase of the 3 Mt/year (4.1 bcm/year) Ningbo LNG import terminal located in Beilun, in the Zhejiang province of China. Once the project is completed by 2020, the terminal's capacity will double to 6 Mt/year (8.1 bcm/year).

Ningbo LNG came online in September 2012 and is CNOOC's fourth LNG terminal; CNOOC owns a 51% operating stake in the Ningbo terminal while Zhejiang Energy Group owns 29% and Ningbo Power Development the remaining 20%. The terminal currently has 160,000 m3 storage tanks and a marine jetty and is one of the nine LNG receiving terminals that CNOOC has in operation in China. CNOOC is also expected to commission the 4 Mt/year (5.4 bcm/year) Shenzhen Diefu LNG terminal later in 2018 while another terminal, the 3 Mt/year (4 bcm/year) Zhangzhou Fujian-1 facility, has recently been approved and is earmarked for 2022.
