CNOOC starts up a 1.8 Mt/year offshore oil platform in southern China

The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has put into operation Asia’s largest offshore oil production platform, located near the Pearl River mouth basin in Guangdong province (southern China), and capable of achieving a peak oil production of 5,000 t/day (1.8 Mt/year).

The platform is a part of the Enping oilfield cluster, which lies at an average water depth of 90 m and will comprise a total of 48 production wells by 2024. CNOOC is the operator and holds a 100% interest in four Enping oilfields (15-1, 10-2, 15-2, 20-4). In addition, the Enping oilfields will be equipped with China’s first offshore carbon capture and storage (CCS) project, which will include a CO2 gas injection well for reinjection and storage of CO2 produced by the oilfields.

In 2021, China produced 208 Mt of crude oil and had proven reserves of nearly 26,000 mbl.
