CNNC starts loading fuel at Fuqing-4 nuclear project (China)

China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has started loading fuel into the fourth unit of the Fuqing nuclear project in the Fujian province of China, which is now entering the “nuclear test run” phase and is expected to be commissioned later in 2017.

The Fuqing site will accommodate six 1,000 MW reactors. The first unit was commissioned in November 2014, the second unit in October 2015 and the third one in October 2016. Fuqing-4 is expected by the end of 2017. In April 2015, the National Development and Reform Commission of China gave its final approval for the construction of units 5 and 6 and construction works started in May 2015 (concrete pouring) at Fuqing-5 and in December 2015 at Fuqing-6. These two new units are expected to be commissioned in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

The Fuqing nuclear power plant project is owned by China Nuclear Power Company (51%), Huadian Fuxin Energy Company (39%) and Fujian Investment and Development Group (10%).
