CNNC starts construction at Tianwan-4 nuclear power plant (China)

China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has started pouring first concrete at the Tianwan site, officially launching the construction of the fourth nuclear reactor on the site in the province of Jiangsu. Two AES-91 VVER-1000 units are already operational (they were commissioned in 2007) and two additional units, rated 1,060 MW each, are now under construction. Works started on the third unit in 2012. The two new units are slated for completion in February and December 2018, respectively. Up to four further potential units of 1,060 MW are under consideration.

The Tianwan plant is operated by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), which owns a 50% stake in the Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation (JNPC), the project developer, in partnership with China Power Investment Corporation (30%) and Jiangsu Guoxin Group (20%). AtomStroyExport (Russia) is the main contractor for the project, supplying the nuclear island.
