CNNC installs containment building at Fuqing-5 nuclear project (China)

China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has reached a new milestone in the construction of its Fuqing nuclear project in the Fujian province of China, by installing the dome of the containment building at the unit 5.

The Fuqing site will accommodate six 1,000 MW domestically-developed Hualong One pressurised water reactors (PWR). The first unit was commissioned in November 2014, the second unit in October 2015 and the third one in October 2016. Unit 4 entered construction in 2012, and units 5 and 6 followed in 2015. Fuqing-5 and 6 are expected to be commissioned in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

The Fuqing nuclear power plant project is owned by China Nuclear Power Company (51%), Huadian Fuxin Energy Company (39%) and Fujian Investment and Development Group (10%).

Two other Chinese Hualong One reactors are under construction at the Fangchenggang plant in Guangxi province. China General Nuclear expects to commission them in 2019 and 2020.
