CNNC commissions Fuqing-3 nuclear reactor in China

The third unit of the Fuqing nuclear project in the Fujian province of China has completed commissioning tests and has entered into commercial operation. Its developer, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), connected the unit to the Chinese grid in early September 2016.

The Fuqing site will accommodate six 1,000 MW reactors. The first unit was commissioned in November 2014 and the second unit in October 2015. Construction of two additional units started in 2009. Fuqing-4 is expected in 2017. In April 2015, the National Development and Reform Commission of China gave its final approval for the construction of units 5 and 6 and construction works started in May 2015 (concrete pouring) at Fuqing-5. Fuqing-5 and 6 are expected to be commissioned in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

The Fuqing nuclear power plant project is owned by China Nuclear Power Company (51%), Huadian Fuxin Energy Company (39%) and Fujian Investment and Development Group (10%).
