CIP reaches FID on one of Spain’s largest biogas plants

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), acting through its Advanced Bioenergy Fund I (ABF I), has reached final investment decision (FID) on Cobirgy, set to become one of Spain’s largest biogas plants, located in La Sentiu de Sió, Lérida Catalonia (CIP press release, 30/06/2026).

CIP stated that “with an estimated annual biomethane production of more than 230 GWh, Cobirgy is expected to have the highest biomethane output of any biogas plant in Spain to date, along with the production of approximately 150,000 tonnes of soil improver and organic fertiliser products per year.”

The Government of Catalonia has designated Cobirgy as a Strategic Business Project, and the facility is receiving a CAPEX grant from the regional authorities. Once fully operational, the plant will be able to process up to 500,000 tonnes of feedstock each year, converting agricultural and industrial organic waste into biomethane.
