CIP reaches FID for its 392 MW Pestera II wind project in Romania

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has reached a final investment decisions (FID) on its 392 MW Pestera II onshore wind project in Constanța County, Romania (CIP press release, 25/06/2026). Financed through CIP’s Growth Markets Fund II (GMF II), the EUR510mn project has secured a 15-year contract for difference (CfD) for 245 MW of its capacity and is scheduled to reach commercial operations in 2028

Main construction contracts have been signed with Nordex (which is supplying 56 turbines), Electrogrup (as the balance-of-plant contractor), and Blue Power Partners (for construction management services). Equity comes from GMF II, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and a Danish pension fund

According to CIP, the project should strengthen Romania’s security of supply and provide long-term renewable power. The company currently manages 15 funds, has raised around EUR37bn (USD42bn) to date and has projects in more than 30 countries

Romania’s wind capacity reached 3 GW in 2025, representing around 15% of its total installed capacity (Enerdata’s Global Energy Research).
