Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), through its Growth Markets Fund II (GMF II), has reached final investment decision and financial close on its 420 MW solar + 150 MW/750 MWh BESS in Campeche, Mexico (CIP press release, 06/08/2026). La Esperanza Solar project should start construction works soon while commercial operations are scheduled in 2028. The project’s battery energy storage system will provide up to five hours of storage.
The USD510m project is financed by debt facilities provided by a consortium of five international and regional commercial banks, while equity is funded by the project owners: CI Growth Markets Fund II with an expected co-investment from leading Mexican retirement fund administrator, Profuturo.
The project represents CIP’s first investment in Mexico to reach financial close, and once operational it is expected to strengthen the reliability, resilience, and flexibility of the electricity system in the Yucatán Peninsula.
