CIP considers a 350 MW offshore wind project in Barranquilla (Colombia)

The city of Barranquilla (Colombia) is expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Copenhagen Infrastructure New Market Fund, a subsidiary of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), to build a 350 MW offshore wind project.

In February 2022, the Colombian Ministry of Mining and Energy initiated a public consultation on the country's draft roadmap for offshore wind energy. The document, prepared with support from the World Bank, outlines two scenarios for offshore wind deployment. The low scenario foresees 200 MW of offshore wind capacity by 2030, 500 MW by 2040 and 1,500 MW by 2050. The high scenario envisions 1 GW by 2030, 3 GW by 2040 and 9 GW by 2050. The country is estimated to have a total offshore technical wind potential of approximately 110 GW, including fixed-bottom and floating projects. The potential is concentrated along the northern coast of the Caribbean Sea, with the largest potential area located off the La Guajira region.
