Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has partnered with Enagás, Naturgy, Fertiberia and Vestas to develop the first phase of Project Catalina, which aims to develop 5 GW of combined wind and solar capacity in Aragon (northern Spain) and 2 GW of electrolyser capacity to produce green hydrogen and supply 30% of Spain’s current hydrogen demand. The first phase of the project will consist of 1.7 GW of wind and solar energy projects and a 500 MW electrolyser capable of producing over 40,000 t/year of green hydrogen. It will connect Aragón and Valencia via a pipeline transporting green hydrogen to supply a green ammonia plant with a capacity of 200,000 t/year. Catalina Phase I is applying for grid connection in Andorra (Teruel), at the Mudejar auction. Construction should start at the end of 2023.
