CIP acquires a stake in Statkraft's 2.2 GW offshore wind portfolio in Ireland

The Danish fund manager Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and the Norwegian power group Statkraft have reached an agreement under the terms of which CIP will acquire a 50% stake in Statkraft’s offshore wind portfolio in Ireland.

With an expected capacity of 2.2 GW, this portfolio includes four early to mid-stage offshore wind development projects off Ireland’s east and southeast coast in the Irish Sea, namely the three phases of the North Irish Sea Array (NISA) and the Bore Array offshore wind project in the Celtic Sea, with a combination of fixed bottom and floating offshore foundations. NISA I (500 MW) is eligible to take part in the first Offshore Renewable Electricity Support Scheme auction (ORESS) to be held by the Irish government later in 2023. The projects, which will require over €4bn in investment, could start operations in 2028.

Ireland aims to reach 7 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 (up from 25 MW at the end of 2021).
