China General Nuclear Power Group (CGNPC) has started operations of a 1 GW solar project in the Laotian province of Oudomxay (Xinhua News, 09/04/2026). The project is expected to produce 1.65 TWh/year and avoid the emission of about 1.3 MtCO2/year. The power plant represents the collaboration of over 70 companies from both Laos and China, the creation of nearly 3,000 local jobs and an investment in local infrastructure.
At the end of 2024, Laos had a total installed capacity of about 13.2 GW of which solar represented approximately 0.4% (59 MW).
