China's State Grid will build the NEGI gas pipe project in Australia

The government of Northern Territory in Australia has selected Jemena, a joint venture of the State Grid Corporation of China and Singapore Power, to build a 623-km gas pipeline, the North East Gas Interconnector (NEGI), connecting the Amadeus pipeline at Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory to the Carpentaria pipeline at Mount Isa in Queensland. The A$800m (US$570m) project will enable the Northern Territory, which holds more than 200 Tcf (more than 5,600 bcm) of gas, to boost production from currently untapped gas reserves and to supply gas to the east coast. Construction is expected to be completed by 2018. Once completed, the pipeline will be known as the Northern Gas Pipeline (NGP).

Jemena owns and operates a diverse portfolio of energy transportation infrastructure across eastern and northern Australia, including the Queensland Gas Pipeline, which delivers gas to the industrial hubs of Gladstone & Rockhampton, the Eastern Gas Pipeline, which provides more than half of the gas used in NSW from Bass Strait, and the NSW gas distribution network, supplying more than 1.3 million customers.
