China’s natural gas consumption increased by 7.6% in 2023

China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has announced that the country’s natural gas consumption increased by 7.6% in 2023 to surpass 394 bcm. In December 2023, natural gas consumption rose by 9.5% compared with the same period of 2022, reaching nearly 38 bcm.

According to China’s National Energy Administration, China’s total crude oil and natural gas output exceeded 390 Mtoe in 2023. China’s crude oil output increased by more than 3 Mt, while natural gas production reached around 230 bcm, a more than 5% (+10 bcm) increase compared to 2022. Natural gas imports grew by 10% in 2023, while crude oil imports rose 11%.
