China’s CNCEC will build a new LNG import terminal in Pakistan

Daewoo Gas has selected the Fourth Construction, a unit of China National Chemical Engineering Group Corporation (CNCEC), to build a new 2.5 Mt/year (3.4 bcm/year) offshore LNG terminal in Pakistan near Karachi. Under a master engineering procurement construction and finance (EPCF) contract, the Chinese company will design, construct and finance the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) project. Commissioning is scheduled in 2023.

The country has two FSRU terminals with a total capacity of 13.2 bcm/year: one commissioned in 2015 by ETPL, with a capacity of 6.5 bcm/year, and Pakistan GasPort, with a capacity of 6.8 bcm/year (2017). Many other LNG import projects have been announced, but none has entered construction so far.
