The 4 Mt/year Huizhou LNG import terminal, located in China’s southern province of Guangdong, has received it commissioning cargo, as it recaptioned 63 kt of LNG from the UAE via the “Coronis” vessel. This marked the commissioning of the eighth LNG regasification terminal in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Developed by Guangdong Energy Group, the Huizhou LNG terminal also has a planned second phase of 6 Mt/year, potentially bringing the total capacity of the terminal to 10 Mt/year in the future. Construction of the 4 Mt/year first phase started in 2021.
The first phase of the project features three 200,000 m3 LNG storage tanks and related supporting loading and unloading, gasification and external transmission facilities, as well as one 80,000 to 266,000 m3 LNG ship unloading terminal.
As of end-2023, China had an LNG regasification capacity of nearly 141 Mt/year (190 bcm/year). The country imported over 73 Mt (nearly 100 bcm) of LNG in 2023.
