China’s 3 Mt/year Jiangsu Huadian Ganyu LNG terminal starts construction

The Jiangsu Huadian Ganyu LNG terminal, with a receiving capacity of 3 Mt/year (4.2 bcm/year) of LNG, has started construction in Lianyungang, Jiangsu province (eastern China). The LNG terminal, which is jointly developed by China’s Huadian Jiangsu Energy and BP Gas & Power Investments, is scheduled to become operational in 2026.

The project, which is Huadian Group’s first LNG terminal project, is part of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan and is one of the four LNG receiving projects approved by the Chinese government in 2022. The others are Urban Rural Energy's Yingkou LNG terminal (6.2 Mt/year), Guangdong Energy's Huizhou LNG terminal (6.1 Mt/year) and Hanas Energy's Putian LNG terminal (5.7 Mt/year).

As of end-2021, China had an LNG regasification capacity of nearly 94 Mt/year (127 bcm/year).
