China General Nuclear (CGN) has announced the start of the construction of the third unit of the Fangchenggang nuclear power plant in the Guangxi province of China, officially launching the start of the Phase II of the Fangchenggang nuclear power plant project.
In December 2015, the State Council of China approved the construction of two Hualong. The project is developed by China General Nuclear (CGN, 61%) and by Guangxi Investment Group (39%). Two CPR-1000 units (1,000 MW each) are already under construction on the Fangchenggang site; with unit 1 connected to the grid in late October 2015. Up to six units are planned. Units 3 and 4 will be based on Hualong One reactors, and units 5 and 6 will be AP1000s (1,100 MW each).
In addition, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has announced the start of the construction of the 1,080 MW Tianwan-5 unit, in Jiangsu province.
Two 1,080 MW ACPR1000 reactors will be built at the Tianwan nuclear power plant in Jiangsu province; the units 5 and 6 of the Tianwan plant will be 50% owned by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), 30% by China Power Investment and 20% by Jiangsu Guoxin Asset Management Group. Construction has already started but was suspended after the Fukushima accident in March 2011. Unit 5 is expected to enter commercial operation in December 2020 and unit 6 in October 2021. The Tianwan plant already has two 990 MW reactors commissioned in 2006 and 2007 and two 990 MW units currently under construction.
