The Chinese state-owned power utility China Huaneng Group has commissioned a 320 MW floating solar photovoltaic (PV) project on a reservoir near the 2,650 MW Dezhou thermal power plant in the Shandong province (China). The solar plant, which is expected to produce 550 GWh/year, was built in two phases with capacities of 200 MW and 120 MW, respectively. It also includes 100 MW of onshore wind power and 8 MWh of storage capacity.
The Huaneng group also plans to develop a 2 GW solar power project in Fengcheng, in the Jiangxi province (China), including floating PV, agrivoltaics and solar parks on fishponds; the first 320 MW phase is expected to be completed in 2022 and the remaining capacity will be installed by 2026.
Solar accounts for 11% of China's installed capacity, with 253 GW (end of 2020).
